This welcome to school bulletin board has a fun 3D effect that is easy and economical to put together! Even better that it is a welcome from the team of staff members to all students!
“We started with white roll paper and drew the lines to look like loose leaf paper.
Next we wrote the large “Welcome” using an old fashioned overhead projector.
The pencil is made with a pool noodle wrapped in construction paper.
The little pencil were purchased and had staff names written on them.”
How can you use this board with your students?
- Talk about how to say “welcome” in other languages and why you would want to do that (diversity for all).
- Brainstorm other words or symbols that mean welcome.
- Do a staff member scavenger hunt. Each day choose a name from the board and challenge students to find that teacher’s room. The first that does gets to be line leader the rest of the day.
Multiple Meanings in the Hallway
Materials Needed:
- White bulletin board paper: You’ll need white as the base for your loose leaf paper style background.
- Construction paper: Use black construction paper for the “holes” in the paper background and use also for covering your 3-dimensional pencil.
- Black and white bulletin board border: Cute bulletin board trim, without being distracting to the rest of the board.
- Pool Noodle: Your 3D pencil!
- Pencil Cut Outs: Use these to write the staff names for an official welcome from all school team members.
Steps to Set Up:
- Begin by placing the white background on your empty board.
- Then use a marker and a yardtsick to add horizontal and one vertical line to the board. It should begin to look like a sheet of lined paper.
- Cut out 3 large black circles from construction paper and place vertically on the left side of the board to create your paper’s “holes”.
- Next, use a thick black marker to handwrite the word “Welcome” in the middle of your board. {Tip: if pretty handwriting freehand is tough, use a projector to project the word onto the board and simply trace it from there.}
- Create your 3-D pencil by covering it with construction paper. Attach it to the board with tape, glue dots, or hot glue.
- Add the black and white bulletin board border around the edges of the board.
- Finally write each staff member’s name on a pencil cut out and staple to the board under the word “Welcome”.
- You may repeat with different words that mean Welcome on additional boards as needed.
Students will love the 3-D effect of this board! It will be easily noticed by anyone who walks past.
Having a central, simple welcome message from the entire staff to all who walk through the school doors is a wonderful way to create a united team front right from day one.
