Loving this middle school bulletin board that can be utilized for most anything with the students!
How can you use this board with your students?
- Have students fill out an “All About Me” poster to hang up under their name.
- Allow students to choose the featured work on the board. They can change it as little or as much as they like. It becomes student-centered and no reason for you to change the bulletin board all year long!
- Feature 2-4 students’ writing each week. Change up regularly so that every child gets a chance to be featured on the board for all to read.
Middle School Coffee Shop Style
Materials Needed:
- Green construction paper: Laminate full sheets to post feature work. Also use for the cup straw and the circle in the middle of the cup.
- Black bulletin board background: This paper will be used for the background of the board, as well as the coffee cup detail in the middle.
- Black and white bulletin board border: The chevron looks especially nice around the edges.
- Black letters with white trim: This type of lettering works well to stand out on the black background and against the white cup.
- White kraft paper: Use this to create your cup shape and the “foam” at the top.
- Brown roll kraft paper: Crunch it up a little to become the coffee in your coffee cup.
- Black chalkboard gift tags: A simple solution for your featured student name tags.
Small white letters: Use for the cup description.
Steps to Set Up:
- Place the black background on your board covering it entirely.
- Then, add your border around the edges.
- Next, use the kraft paper rolls to cut out your cup shape, add the crumpled paper sections at the top, and cut out a black circle from the black roll of paper.
- Use the green paper to create a straw and another large green circle to place in the middle of your cup.
- After your basic cup is put together, hand-draw (or have an art teacher help out) the logo in the middle of the cup with white chalk on the black paper.
- Add your class or school name to the green circle around the logo.
- Next, place your student feature green pages on the left side of the board. Add as many as you like in the space left. {Optional: laminate the green page to make it easy to swap out student work and/or name tags.}
- Create student name tags by using a white chalkboard or paint marker. Attach them to the top of the green paper.
- Last: Add the title “There’s a ‘Latte’ to Read” to finish it up.
Using student interests right off the bat includes them in the process of classroom decorating.
With popular coffee chains and drinks currently in the mainstream, students can relate to the content and are more likely to utilize and read the bulletin board on a regular basis.
