Sometimes a simple bulletin board that involves minor prep is just as effective as one that is very involved when putting together. Plus, the apples are a traditional school symbol all will recognize.
How can you use this board with your students?
- Have students help to create the tissue paper apples as a reward project earned at the end of the week.
- Discuss similarities and differences between the apples (their bodies, the outline color and shape, etc.)
- Ask students to write a recipe using apples, making sure to include an ingredients list and detailed step-by-step directions.
The Apple of My Teacher’s Eye
Materials Needed:
- Green fabric background: Using a fabric background is a change from the traditional paper behind it and can easily be reused over and over again.
- Black bulletin board border: Multiple borders create a more professional look.
- Red glitter border: Layering borders adds a multi-dimensional look to your board.
- Apple bulletin board border: Finish off the edges with a cute apple theme.
- White bulletin board lettering: The white letters will really stand out against the green fabric background.
- Construction Paper: Use the construction paper for the apple cutouts and apple outlines.
- Tissue Paper: Cut into small chunks, this will create our stained glass apple look on the bulletin board.
Steps to Set Up:
- Begin by adding the green fabric background to the board.
- Then, add your black border around the edges of the board.
- Next, place the red trim around the board, making sure some of the black trim is showing from behind it.
- Add your third border, the apples, on top of the red, making sure the red is also seen from behind. Having layered bulletin board borders makes your board look more polished and put together.
- Grab the letters you need to create the title “{Your School Name} is at the core of learning!” Add those to the center top third of your board.
- Now it’s time to make the apples! Begin by cutting out 2 of each apple. You will have matching sets if you cut 2 sheets at the same time.
- Set one copy of each apple aside for now and then cut your tissue paper into small rectangles. It will look like a pile of confetti.
- Use glue to add various shades of your tissue paper to each apple. Layer them as much or as little as you like.
- Take the duplicate apple copies and cut out the middle so that you have a construction paper outline left.
- Place the apply outline over the tissue paper apple and attach with a stapler.
- Add your apples to your board to fill the space as the final step.
Using simple materials can really make this bulletin board stand out from the rest. The bonus is that you can even enlist the help of students to help create it and have it up in a snap!
